Joanna first met Johnny in 1971 and the pair tied the knot the following year.

He was 15 years older than her at the time of their first meeting, as reported by Extra.

The pair separated in 1982 before divorcing in 1985, reaching a $20 million settlement.

She had demanded $220,000 a month but was awarded $35,000 a month under the terms of the agreement, as per The Los Angeles Times.

Johnny Carson, who died in 2005, was best known as being the host of NBC‘s The Tonight Show.

He hosted the program between 1962 and 1992 as part of a television career that spanned more than 50 years.

He was previously married to Joan “Jody” Wolcott between 1949 and 1963, and Joanne Copeland between 1963 and 1972.

Carson spoke about his marriages in an interview with People in May 1992, marking the end of his stint as the Tonight Show host.

“If I had given as much to marriage as I gave to the Tonight Show, I’d probably have a hell of a marriage,” he said.

Joanna worked closely with the charity SHARE (Share Happily and Reap Endlessly).

The organization is the oldest charity in Beverly Hills and was launched by the wives of the Rat Pack.

It raises money for children that are disabled, or those who have been abused or neglected.

Joanna also produced productions such as American Psycho, Beetlejuice, and American Buffalo.

Mourners have described Joanna as an “extraordinary woman” in tributes posted online.

Her death was announced alongside Wallis Annenberg in a Facebook post from The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.

“Such a generous individuals who will be so very missed,” one fan said.

“Extraordinary women- born into different family systems faiths and traditions-who both used their gifts and talents to help people and animals that are discounted,” another posted.

“2 such wonderful women. They were such angels to ETAF.”

Joanna’s death comes just weeks after Carson’s eldest son, Chris, died, at the age of 74.
