Not done yet – Venus Williams to compete at Charlotte Invitational in December alongside Madison Keys

WTA icon Venus Williams has been on a long hiatus from professional tennis, but fans of the American superstar will get a chance to see her compete this December in Charlotte.

The former World No.1 took to social media to announce she would be joining compatriot and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys at the Charlotte Invitational, a premier tennis exhibition event that will be coming to Charlotte, North Carolina on December 4, 2025. The event will feature four stars of the tennis world, with Americans Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz rounding out the field.

Williams remains silent on retirement rumors

The seven-time Grand Slam champion has enjoyed a successful career that has spanned three decades. Williams has several accolades to her name, including winning the 2000 Olympic gold medal in singles and three gold medals in doubles, alongside sister Serena Williams.

However, the 45-year old has been inactive on the WTA Tour for over a year now. Her last appearance came on tour came in 2024, when she suffered first round losses at Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

Although the California native was offered a wildcard entry to the 2025 Indian Wells WTA 1000 tournament, she turned it down. Williams has been coy about her retirement plans, often deflecting such questions using humor and grace. However, her recent announcement indicates she may not be ready to hang up her racket just yet.
