The life of King Von was a documented chronicle of chaos and violence, with new technology and posthumous evidence revealing his involvement in at least five Chicago cold cases. But while the world remembers his final, fatal confrontation with Quando Rondo’s crew, a far darker and more intricate conspiracy is being unearthed, suggesting that his passing was a calculated move orchestrated by his close friend and collaborator, Lil Durk.

The Conspiracy: The Atlanta Case and the Motive
The root of the alleged betrayal lies in the infamous 2019 Atlanta case, where Von and Durk were both charged in connection with a robbery and murder outside a restaurant. Video evidence allegedly showed Lil Durk firing a weapon from a moving vehicle. The case was held at a standstill for nearly two years.
When King Von was tragically shot and killed in November 2020, the entire dynamic of the Atlanta case changed. In October 2022, Fulton County prosecutors dropped all charges against Lil Durk “in the interest of justice.” Investigators now believe that Von’s passing served as a “get out of jail free card” for Durk, who may have placed the blame entirely on Von.
This theory is amplified by a statement from Vonnie’s father, who is currently snitching against Durk in a separate murder-for-hire case. Vonnie’s father alleged that Durk orchestrated a “backdoor” on Von. The motive was two-fold:
-
Eliminate Competition: Von was outselling Durk and was not signed to a lucrative 360-deal, making him a financial threat.
Legal Escape: Von’s passing eliminated the primary co-defendant in the Atlanta case, allowing Durk to negotiate a private settlement and have his charges dropped.
The father also referenced cryptic messages between Durk and Vonnie following the passing, claiming Durk asked, “Was it open?” to which Vonnie allegedly replied, “It’s off the hinges,” suggesting a pre-arranged plot was executed after the payment to the eventual shooter, Lil Tim.
The Life: Rewards and Retaliation
Before his passing, King Von was reportedly involved in two major acts of street warfare that provided the blueprint for the current investigations.
The FBG Duck Hit: In August 2020, Von is believed to have ordered the hit on rival rapper FBG Duck in downtown Chicago. Police tracked the cars of the O-Block members responsible. Just 10 days later, Von was seen on video at Icebox purchasing $128,000 in diamond chains for members of his crew—a move prosecutors believe was a reward for the crime.
The 2014 Acquittal: King Von’s rap persona was cemented by his ability to beat serious charges. In a famous 2014 case, Von was charged with murder and attempted murder. His co-defendant, Big Mike, flipped to snitch, but Von was acquitted of all charges and walked free, a victory he would often boast about to police during later arrests.
The Last Night: A Fateful, Unnecessary Decision

The final hours of King Von’s life were marked by a series of unprecedented, self-sabotaging decisions. After his album release party ended, Von suddenly changed the plan to go to an after-hours spot called the Monaco Lounge—a decision made solely by him and kept secret from his manager and the rest of his crew until the last minute.
When the brawl with Quando Rondo’s crew broke out in the parking lot:
Missing Security: Von’s manager noted that while Von normally traveled with at least three professional bodyguards and 10 to 15 crew members, his security was inexplicably absent from the scene, leading to the one-on-one confrontation.
The Brawl: Von instantly jumped out of the car to confront Quando Rondo. When Lil Tim shot Von, the manager was hit, and a chaotic shootout erupted.
The Aftermath: Though Von’s friends rushed him to the hospital, and he survived two surgeries, he died after getting startled by a nurse during the wait for a third procedure. Lil Tim’s charges for the shooting were ultimately dismissed by the court, citing self-defense.
A year later, Lil Durk allegedly showed his hand by ordering a retaliatory hit on Quando Rondo’s friend, Lil Pab. Durk even included lyrics in a subsequent song that referenced the pain Quando Rondo would feel, ensuring that the saga of revenge—which may have begun with Von’s own alleged betrayal—came full circle.
