Yandy Smith Opens Up About Confrontation with Jasmine on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta
Reality TV veteran Yandy Smith recently sat down for an interview with Angela Yee on Way Up with Angela Yee, shedding light on the dramatic confrontation she had with Jasmine on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.
The explosive moment, which unfolded during Spice’s album launch party, left fans buzzing about the tension between Yandy, her husband Mendeecees Harris, and Jasmine, who shares a child with Love & Hip Hop co-star Kirk Frost.
The Heated Confrontation
Jasmine approached Yandy and Mendeecees during the event, kicking off an uncomfortable exchange. According to Yandy, Jasmine accused Mendeecees of frequenting her workplace, a bar where she serves drinks.
Jasmine implied that she had inside knowledge of Mendeecees’ alleged infidelity, claiming that a woman he was involved with didn’t want to come forward.
Yandy, known for her composure, was visibly taken aback but refused to let Jasmine dictate the situation.
“You can’t just walk up to me and my husband and say anything without me questioning it,” Yandy explained in the interview.
Yandy admitted that she knew who Jasmine was before the confrontation, as they had previously crossed paths at a bachelorette party.
Jasmine had allegedly attempted to share gossip about another woman’s husband, but Yandy made it clear she had no interest in being the bearer of bad news.
“If you want to talk about somebody’s husband, let me get her on the phone, and you can tell her yourself,” Yandy recounted, emphasizing that she refused to play the role of a “bone carrier.”
Reality TV vs. Reality
Yandy pointed out that many newcomers to reality TV enter the scene looking for a moment to cement their place in the cast.
She felt that Jasmine was attempting to create a dramatic storyline, but her approach fell flat. “New people on this show always look for that ‘aha’ moment so they can be a cast member,” Yandy noted.
The way the scene was edited also frustrated Yandy. She claimed that much of her reaction was cut out, making it appear as though she was standing silently while Jasmine confronted her.
In reality, Yandy pressed Jasmine for details, asking, “So you know him from the bar—what happened? Did he touch you? Did he do something inappropriate?”
When Jasmine failed to provide any substantial accusations beyond saying Mendeecees had ordered a drink, Yandy dismissed the entire situation as a weak attempt at stirring controversy.
Behind-the-Scenes Tactics
Yandy revealed that after leaving the confrontation, she and Mendeecees thought the drama was over. However, production had other plans.
“We walked out, thinking it was done, but they were like, ‘Nah, we didn’t get the moment we needed,’” Yandy shared.
To her surprise, Jasmine and her friends reappeared outside, attempting to extend the conflict.
Yandy suspected that producers were orchestrating an extended scene to generate more tension and airtime. “They wanted a moment,” she said.
A Lesson in Reality TV Strategy
Reflecting on the incident, Yandy offered advice to aspiring reality TV personalities. She stressed the importance of having a clear purpose when joining a show rather than relying solely on creating controversy.
“When you get on this show, figure out what your end goal is. Do you want to be known as the homewrecker? The girl who just wrecks things? Or do you want to be known as a businesswoman, someone who supports their community?”
Yandy praised cast members who have successfully leveraged reality TV to build brands, businesses, and lasting legacies.
She emphasized that while drama might bring immediate attention, long-term success comes from having a well-defined plan beyond stirring up gossip.
Fans React
Yandy’s interview reignited the debate among Love & Hip Hop Atlanta fans. Some supported her stance, agreeing that Jasmine was reaching for relevance.
Others believed Jasmine had valid points and that Yandy was downplaying the situation.
Regardless of where viewers stand, one thing is certain—reality TV continues to deliver explosive drama, and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta remains one of the most talked-about franchises in the genre.
Final Thoughts
As reality TV evolves, Yandy’s perspective highlights the fine line between manufactured drama and authentic storytelling.
Whether or not Jasmine’s confrontation was justified, it’s clear that Yandy is playing the long game, focusing on building her empire rather than engaging in unnecessary conflicts.
What do you think? Was Jasmine genuinely exposing the truth, or was she just looking for her moment?
