Jakub Mensik has won the Miami Open title after beating Novak Djokovic in a straight sets final.

Mensik and Djokovic dealt with rain delays before their final could eventually get underway, with the Czech teenager coming through in two tie-break sets.

Despite the setback of not being able to make history of winning a 100th ATP title, Djokovic has been very encouraging towards Mensik.

Djokovic is not the only player to give him plaudits, with Nick Kyrgios one of many to praise Mensik after his breakthrough victory.

Rick Macci makes big ranking prediction for Jakub Mensik

As a result of winning the Miami Open, Mensik has risen 30 places up the ATP rankings to a career-high ranking of world number 24.

This will enable him to be seeded at Grand Slam tournaments for the first time in his career at Roland Garros.

After reaching this high, top tennis coach Rick Macci, who has mentored the likes of Serena and Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick, has predicted Mensik to continue that rise.

Macci also suggested that Mensik can challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz going forward.

“Huge upside with huge serve,” Macci said on X (formerly known as Twitter). “The leg drive innates the racquet at the right time and the angle of decent of serve is coming in with mustard from a launched and elevated 6 ft 4 frame to a spot.

“Jacob will be CZECKING Carlos and Jannik and the top 5 sooner than later.”

Mensik currently has 2,032 ranking points, with his Miami Open final opponent Djokovic taking up that fifth spot on 4,510 points.

Where is Jakub Mensik in the race to the ATP Finals?

While Mensik still has some way to go before making the top five in the ATP rankings, he is currently showing good signs of making that reality.

After the first three months of the 2025 season, Mensik sits in sixth in the race to the year-end ATP Finals.

Despite being banned until May, Sinner still leads the race after winning his only tournament this year at the Australian Open.

While it has been a relatively less successful campaign for Alcaraz, who lost his only match in Miami and is only 80 points ahead of Mensik.
