Serena Williams has openly shared her deep commitment to motherhood. In November 2024, she said, “I am obsessed with my children. I spend all day with them. I have my schedule or my work schedule, like my whole life is like ok, being with Olympia, being with Adira.”
That same year also saw the launch of her significant venture, WYN Beauty, in partnership with the Good Glamm Group and a wide retail rollout in Ulta Beauty stores, showcasing her business acumen.
Yet, with such deep maternal commitment alongside a burgeoning business empire, the question arises: what is the unspoken cost of this demanding balance?
Serena Williams, the Compton-raised icon now residing in Florida, made a special appearance at her WYN Beauty x Shopify pop-up event on April 11th.
Celebrating the one-year mark of her beauty brand, founded in April 2024, the tennis legend and mother of two offered a compelling insight to People Magazine: success is “very expensive.”
“Yeah, it definitely costs a lot,” the mother of two daughters, Olympia, 7, and Adira, 1, began explaining.
“I’m here [in California] without my kids, and that’s a big cost for me because I spend a lot of time with my children, and they’re very attached to me, which a part of me loves. So, it’s always some cost.”
Williams went on to explain that the real price of her athletic career and ultimate success wasn’t measured in dollars and cents.
“My whole life I’ve had to kind of weigh, like, ‘If I wanna win a championship, well what is that going to cost me?’” Williams said. “It’s going to cost me time with my family, it’s going to cost me friends, it’s going to cost me relationships. And they’re very expensive. You have to decide if it’s worth it for you.”
Fun fact: According to Forbes, as of February 2025, Serena Williams’ net worth stands at an impressive $340 million, earning her the #97 spot on the publication’s 2024 list of “America’s Self-Made Women.” Interestingly, she retired from tennis in 2022, with a total career prize money amounting to $94.8 million.
When questioned about how creating WYN Beauty has shaped her discussions about beauty with her daughters, Williams made inner beauty her central point. “It’s super important for me to share that beauty is definitely on the inside,” Williams added. “And then anything externally is just an enhancement of who you are. So our beauty and what we do at WYN Beauty enhances your inside beauty.”
Furthermore, Williams has also drawn inspiration from her mother, Oracene Price, whose influence, she says, shaped her mental toughness and discipline more when she became a mother herself. During a 2021 interview with Good Morning America, Williams admitted,
“I’ve always been inspired by my mom, but I’ve never been inspired to the level that I am now. I respect her so much more. Not that I didn’t, but I think when I had a baby, I relied on her more than I ever have.”
Fun fact: Beyond WYN Beauty, Williams has expanded her entrepreneurial footprint with Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm that has invested in over 60 companies and raised $111 million for its inaugural fund.
Having achieved excellence in virtually every domain she’s pursued, from the tennis court to the entrepreneurial world, Williams clarified that she doesn’t foresee launching another large business undertaking in the near future. “I’m done!” she said with a chuckle. “I’m not launching anything else like this. I just am happy doing WYN Beauty. And I’m happy being a mom and I’m happy with my venture company, and that’s a lot. We’re good!”
This all probably goes back to the time when she candidly admitted to moments of self-doubt as a mom, saying, “Sometimes I get really down and feel like, Man, I can’t do this.” However, she’s no quitter. Serena always finds a way to have the best of both worlds. .
Serena Williams stepped into the world of children’s fashion with her first-ever kids’ clothing line in collaboration with Janie and Jack.
On March 12, she gave fans a sneak peek of the collection’s photoshoot on Instagram, featuring adorable moments with her daughters, Olympia and Adira, all dressed in matching pink outfits. She captioned it, “Anything I do with my girls brings me joy, but creating this collection with them and @janieandjack has been a dream come true.”
The Spring 2025 limited-edition line is now available online and in stores nationwide. This vibrant collection reflects Serena’s iconic style and her love for family. Inspired by her daughters, the designs feature bold colors, ombré hues, vacation-ready prints, and even a reimagined version of her childhood tennis outfit from 1992. It also includes playful swimwear, chic mommy-and-me looks, and tennis-inspired accessories like a pink tennis ball bag. Serena poured her heart into every piece, saying, “Every piece is designed to celebrate family, style, and the special moments we share together.”
Serena has been a fan of Janie and Jack since Olympia was a baby, making this collaboration feel natural. She explained how meaningful it was to create something that celebrates family bonds while showcasing her daughters’ unique personalities. “This collection is a celebration of family and a reflection of where I am right now—it’s such a special time in my life with my girls,” she shared.
Serena’s passion for creating joyful memories shines through every detail. From stylish resort wear to nostalgic tennis-inspired pieces, this collection is all about fun, confidence, and cherishing family moments—something Serena hopes families everywhere will enjoy together.
